Part of the bond at Meridian High School is to move the band/choir room from an exterior building to the old cafeteria. This change means all classes would be on one enclosed campus, enhancing security and safety for everyone. By having all students and staff within the main campus, the school can ensure quicker emergency responses, better protection from external threats and increased supervision.
According to the ICOS Building Earthquake EPAT Summary completed in February 2023, Meridian Middle School was classified as a very high risk building and would likely receive a Red Tag. This means the building would be unsafe to enter after an earthquake and necessarily be demolished.
Why is this important?
The EPAT (Earthquake Performance Assessment Tool) has identified Meridian Middle School as one of the highest priorities for further evaluations, retrofits, or replacement due to its high-risk rating.
Approving the school bond is crucial to ensure the safety of our students and staff by rebuilding Meridian Middle School to meet current safety codes. Your support will help us prioritize the necessary actions to create a safe and secure learning environment for our children.
Did you know Meridian Middle School has been around longer than M&Ms, ballpoint pens, and even Velcro? It’s time to give our students a fresh start in a new building! Let’s stick together and make it happen!
How many hundreds of kids, families and community members come to Meridian football games and athletic events? Did you know the Meridian High School stadium has rotting beams, a failing roof, and leaning, rotting light poles? These repairs are costly and needed. Community support of the November 5 bond can ensure a safe and functional space for our kids!
